Few countries in the world are so little known and so seldom visited as the Philippines, and yet no other land is more pleasant to travel in than this richly endowed island. Hardly anywhere does nature lover find a greater fill of boundless treasure. The Philippines still offers remarkable experiences: buried gold; unexplored caves; sunken Spanish galleons; dense jungle with rare plants and animals; primeval people; active volcanoes and uninhabited paradise island with unspoiled coral reefs.

For the traveler, it is the variety the Philippines offers that is so interesting. The bustling capital of Manila contrasts with lonely islands fringed with superb beaches and gardens of coral. There are towns where you will find a thriving nightlife, but you can also visit mountain tribes who still live according to their own laws and traditions. There are huge rice terraces built eons ago with the most primitive of tools; wide sugarcane fields with subterranean rivers and lakes; or shadowy palm forest groves and dense jungle. If you can learn to be as laid back as the Filipinos amid all this natural beauty, you'll fit in just fine.

The major island in this group are Cebu, Bohol, Negros, Leyte, Samar, Panay, Romblon, Guimares and Siquijor and there are countless little island scattered between them. The Visayas offer by far the best possibilities for island hopping in the Philippines.
